As a matter of fact I just ordered and received seasons 1 and 2 on DVD.

Yep, love love love the show. Netflix has all the seasons available for instant view.

Really? I didn't know netflicks had all the seasons..wow..Cool! The show is awesome!

Post 5 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 23-May-2011 20:55:05

Yep. Definitely. And it continues to be so even after twelve seasons, which is more than I can say about some other shows. The Simpsons, for instance. Granted I love the show but I think after season 12 it stopped being as funny. But SVU is just as gripping now as it was back in the beginning.

I used to be but too soon it got too easy to figure out which headline the stories were ripped from. There was even an incident in Canada that was used, one in a remote part where a doctor raped his patient and inserted a catheter into a vein with another patient's blood so the DNA on the patient's panties didn't match his. The ruse was discovered when the blood got old and the phlebotomist noticed a brown tinge to it. Finally the RCMP's sat the doctor down and told him, "You're going to get your blood drawn by this lady and you're going to let HER choose the arm." He previously pleaded a circulatory disorder or something in the opposite, so she got the arm without the catheter and BINGO, but too late...he had already raped his 12-year-old stepdaughter. I am happy, though, for Marissa Hargitay on her adoption of a little girl for a sibling for her son.

Yeah, I did hear about that case in Canada. It's really sad that things like that happen.
I really do think it's awesome that she adopted a little girl..so sweet!

And she's the godmother of CHris Meloni's daughter.

I love love love SVU. I couldn't miss a show or id be mad. I hate that they came up with Law & Order; Los Angeles. I saw that one once, but it wasn't interesting enuff. I wish they put SVU on with new episodes. Elliot & Liv are wonderful partners, love them.

In my experience this is usually the time of year when they show reruns while the new episodes are being made.

Did you ever see the episode with the La Leche people convincing the mother to starve the baby?
My wife had some run-ins with them zealots, but what saved the situation was as usual, I wouldn't listen and kept giving the baby pumped milk from the bottle.
The show is pretty realistic on that front: they tried to tell the wife about even breastmilk in a bottle being bad because the bottle itself was supposedly bad. Um? So that's how you help a distressed person? Looked to me like a woman having the postpardem was a soul in distress.
Anyway that show was very vivid, so was the one about the preacher convincing the kid to stone his mother to death because she dated a Muslim.
Haven't watched it in years, probably since it went off the air. Maybe before that: the last one I saw was the Santarisa show with that weird cult.

If the La Leche episode featured Angie Harmon as the prosecutor, I remember it. I am not of the school of breast feeding being the alpha and the omega of infant/child/maternal health, and didn't nurse but a few months. I remember Angie's line in that one: "Formula fed kids may have some problems, but starvation isn't one of 'em." RIGHT ON!

I personally can't stomach the show, as it brings on flashbacks of 1982, when I lived with horrible guardians, yet I can watch someone like abdullah the butcher break a coffeepot over his opponent's skull.

Post 14 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 30-May-2011 20:01:39

I think I remember the one you're talking about Leo. WHere the doctor tried to play it up in court as merely that she said breastfeeding was best and not that it was the only good option. If it's the episode I'm thinking of. Then there was the episode abou the girl with Down's Syndrome who got pregnant and the trial was more about whether she was in fact competant enough to live alone with her boyfriend (also a Down's kid), and raise a child than about bringing the actual perp to justice.

Post 15 by squidwardqtentacles (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 30-May-2011 20:41:13

I think that was part of why I stopped watching, the one about the raped Downs' Syndrome teenager: it seemed a propaganda film for the pro choice movement and I'm pro life. I remember the mother of the girl whining, "All this is happening because I chose not to abort her." Even forced the girl to undergo an invasive test to see if her baby had the third chromosome on the 21. Oh, great, teach "pro choice" and eugenics on a prime time tv show. They always made more conservative types, like pro life and anti same sex marriage types, and Christians, out to be hate mongers and nut jobs.

Post 16 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 04-Jun-2011 19:53:08

I believe the choice should be up to the individual, although I do believe there should be limitations. I mean if it's a case of rape or a ituation where the pregnancy would more likely than ot imperil or cost the lives of both the child and the mother then it should be up to the individual. And as for same sex marriage as far as I'm concerned denying gays the right to marry and call it marriage is no different than it would be if they'd ever tried to deny blind folks the right to marry. But I applaud Dick Wolf for coming up with SVU since it brought to light a serious issue, a series of them actually, that were until then almost never brought up directly on TV. I'm just sorry CHris Meloni's leaving. I wonder how they're going to write Stabler out of the script though.

Post 17 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 07-Jun-2011 22:12:03

Aw, really? That sucks. I mean, the show will go on without him, but Stabler is my favorite character. I haven't been keeping up lately, but I certainly will when I get a chance.

Post 18 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Wednesday, 08-Jun-2011 23:13:51

He's certainly one of my favorites also. Him and Benson. Just as long as they don't try replacing him the way they're apparently doing for Charlie on Two and a Half Men. Ashten Cutcher as Charlie Harper? Excuse me? They'd be better just cancelling the show. As for SVU I hope it's just a matter of assigning Benson a new partner and hoping they work as well together as she did with Stabler. Otherwise that's gonna kill the ratings for the show.

Post 19 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 11-Jun-2011 21:35:03

Yeah, it does suck that Chris M is leaving..I totally agree. I've been expecting it for a while ever since he made comments about it however I was really bummed out when it was made official that he would be leaving the show.

Post 20 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 12-Jun-2011 12:24:54

Like I said though, I wonder if they're going to kill him off or just have him quit the unit. Personally I hope for the latter given the problems his family's had.

Post 25 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 06-Nov-2011 0:56:51

Yeah, I remember that ep to..that's awesome! I love Liv..so glad she's still on the show.
BTW brian..the character of Stablelor he resigned on the show so they didn't kill him off. That'd be nice if he came back as a guest appearence!

Good. Because the Stablers don't need anymore problems. LOL.
